Rape Conviction: 72-Year-Old Harvey Weinstein Files An Appeal in Los Angeles

Harvey Weinstein, now 72 years old, filed an appeal in court in Los Angeles after his conviction of sexual assault against a model actress.

Harvey Weinstein Filed an Appeal

Lawyers of Harvey Weinstein filed an appeal in the Second District Court of Appeal on Friday in relation to the conviction for sexual assault. They indicated last year their intention for a new trial in the 2022 Los Angeles case.

In a published article in CBS News, Weinstein was found guilty of the sexual assault charges and was sentenced to face 16 years imprisonment after a verdict was made in a Los Angeles courtroom in February 2023. Moreover, Weinstein and his lawyers received a series of extensions last year to prepare the documents.

Conviction of Harvey Weinstein

In December 2022, Harvey Weinstein was convicted of one count each of forcible rape, forcible oral copulation, and sexual penetration by a foreign object in February 2013. Meanwhile, the jury at that time could not come to a unanimous decision on three other charges, including one related to Jennifer Siebel Newsom, a filmmaker and the wife of California Gov. Gavin Newsom.

On the other hand, Weinstein hopes to receive a similar outcome to the one he received in New York. His convictions on rape charges were overturned by appeals court in April. He was supposed to face 23 years imprisonment in that conviction. However, New York prosecutors are expected to retry the case again.
